Supported by the GM Green Spaces Fund and part of the Miles Platting Wildlife Corridor, Chippenham Community Garden is a hidden gem!
In the heart of Miles Platting and Ancoats, Manchester, a small but determined group of local people are coming together to transform the Chippenham Community Garden into a space the whole neighbourhood can enjoy. Right now, it’s a work in progress at the beginning stages, only three sessions in—it’s overgrown and underused—but the energy and commitment of the community are what make this project special.
The garden is a shared space where residents can reconnect with nature, learn new skills, and spend time with others who care about the area. With support from Diggit MCR, we’re laying the groundwork for something wonderful: a thriving green space where vegetables can be grown next year, pansies are already blooming and people can come together to relax, create and connect.
The group has big plans. Over the coming months, we’ll start planting in the raised beds, adding seasonal touches, and hosting regular gardening and crafting sessions to bring the space to life. These sessions are free and open to everyone, with a focus on making the garden accessible and welcoming to people of all ages and abilities.
It’s not perfect yet, but every bit of effort—every weed pulled, every seed planted—is a step closer to a vibrant community space we can all be proud of. If you’d like to get involved or just learn more, follow Diggit MCR on Instagram [instagram.com] for updates.
Together, we’re proving that even small changes can have a big impact when people come together with a shared vision. The Chippenham Community Garden is all about growth—both in the garden itself and in the connections between the people who care for it.
If you would like to get involved, please join us weekly on a Friday 2-4pm! Everyone is welcome- hot drinks & refreshments are provided 🙂
