Growing Together at Chippenham Community Gardens- continued…

What a transformative couple months it has been here at Chippenham Community Garden! We’re thrilled to share the progress we’ve made and the joys we’ve experienced along the way as we nurture this space into a thriving community hub.

Goodbye, Stinky Bob!

One of our biggest wins before Christmas was saying farewell to a persistent garden invader: the herb Robert, affectionately (and not-so-affectionately) dubbed “Stinky Bob.” This prolific weed had taken over parts of the garden, but with a bit of teamwork, determination, and plenty of laughs, we managed to clear most of it out. The space feels lighter and brighter already!

Two Beds in Bloom

Three of our raised beds have been transformed and the results are stunning. Two of them are now brimming with bulbs and a variety of flowers—a colourful promise of spring blooms to come. It’s wonderful to see these beds turning into vibrant focal points that bring joy to everyone who visits. We’ve also had some lovely feedback from passersby who’ve noticed the changes.

Herbs on the Horizon

Next up: our very own herb garden! The third raised bed is ready for action, and we’re excited to be planting an array of herbs. From fragrant rosemary to lush mint, we’re looking forward to creating a practical and sensory-rich addition to the garden that everyone can enjoy.

New Faces and Familiar Friends

The community at Chippenham is growing as beautifully as the garden itself. Each week, we’ve welcomed new faces alongside familiar ones, creating a diverse group of participants who bring their energy, ideas, and stories to share. This mix of old and new connections has been a highlight of the project, reminding us why spaces like this are so important.

A Quirky Challenge: Cats in the Garden

One unexpected development has been our furry visitors. Local cats seem to have taken a liking to the freshly dug soil, treating it as their personal toilet. While this has caused a few chuckles (and a bit of head-scratching), we’re hopeful it won’t become a bigger issue. For now, we’re managing it with a good sense of humour and a watchful eye!

A Tap for Tending

On a practical note, we’re delighted to have discovered a mains water tap nearby. This will make tending to our plants so much easier and ensure that the garden flourishes even during dry spells.

Looking Ahead

We’re excited about the possibilities that lie ahead for these community gardens. Each small step transforms the space further, and it’s heartening to see how much we’ve achieved together already. Whether you’re a regular attendee or someone thinking about joining us, know that there’s always room for more hands and hearts in the Chippenham Community Garden- every Friday, 2-4pm.

Stay tuned for more updates as the garden grows! And remember, whether it’s flowers, herbs, or laughs, there’s something here for everyone.
